TRANSMITTERS
SET UP, WORKING PRINCIPLE, TYPES & INDUSTRIALAPPLICATIONS
INTRODUCTION
• Radar Level Transmitters are used is different applications for fluid
measurement. The function of these transmitters are based electromagnetic
waves at a range of 10GHz.
• There are two types of Radar Level Transmitters:
• Non-Contact Systems
• Contact Systems
HOW TO SETUP RADAR LEVEL
TRANSMITTER?
• Setting up the Radar Level Transmitters is rather easy. There are three main
components that are required for setting up these Transmitters:
• Solid-State Oscillator
• A Radar Antenna
• Receiver and Signal Processor System
• Along with these components, TTS offers Setup Wizard with advanced
systems. It acts as a software interface to the transmitter operation.
WORKING PRINCIPLE OF RADAR LEVEL
TRANSMITTERS
• The working principle is a function of Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR), which is
also known as the Time of Flight (TOF) radar measuring principle.
• Following is the step-by-step explanation of Radar Level Detector’s working
principle:
• Firstly, the solid-state oscillator is installed in radar level sensor setup oscillates
electromagnetic waves to the fluid surface.
• After the electromagnetic waves hit the fluid surface, it reflects a pulsating signal to the radar
antenna.
• The time to level calculation is performed by the signal processor.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF TECHNOLOGIES IN
RADAR LEVEL TRANSMITTERS
• Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitters – It is a contact type of transmitter, where
TDR probes are immersed in dry or bulk media. TDR Probes can:
• Detect the advancing motion of the electromagnetic waves
• It get rids of obstacles in between the path of waves.
• These probes are highly immune to high temperature, pressure and environmental damage.
• This technology is suitable for harsh environment and is highly compatible with
high-end industrial applications as it require zero maintenance. TDR technology is
used in the guided wave radar level sensors and guided wave radar level
transmitters.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF TECHNOLOGIES IN
RADAR LEVEL TRANSMITTERS
• Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) Transmitters – Radar Antenna’s
are used in transmitters which are working on FMCW technology.
• The radar antenna emits a signal and the receiver catches it within a specific time.
• Transmitters with FMCW Technology are non-contact systems.
• This technology emits high-frequency continuous signals with gradually increasing
frequency.
• Due to frequency sweep, continuous measurement is possible in this technology.

industrial applications are as follows:
