What	is	fast	of	computer?	
•  If	your	computer	is	too	old,	you	would	wait	for	
browsing	a	website.	
•  If	your	computer	has	a	lot	of	memories,	you	
don’t	have	to	wait	for	browsing.	
•  your	computer	is	checked	by	tesOng	
benchmarking.
How	to	measure?	
•  TesOng	benchmarking	is	used	for	measuring	fast	of	the	
computer.	
•  Benchmarking	use	a	program	which	runs	many	Omes.
Materials(1)	
•  A	computer	which	with	web	browser	and	Internet	access	
•  Calculator	or	spreadsheet	program(e.g.	Excel),	doe	
analyzing	data	
•  Lab	notebook	
•  Graph	paper

•  OpOonal:	
•  Python	3	with	IDLE	and	Python	3	Oming	test	code	
•  C	compiler	and	C	language	Oming	test	code
What	is	the	test	code?(1)	
•  It	is	a	program	which	measure	the	run	Ome.	
•  It	repeat	the	same	calculate	and	when	it	finish,	the	
program	return	the	Ome	it	took.	
•  CalculaOon	can	be	selected	among	sum,	subtract,	
mulOply	and	divide.
What	is	the	test	code?(2)	
•  The	Ome	is	subtracted	start	Ome	from	end	Ome.	
•  You	can	measure	the	Ome	by	other	language.	
•  Test	code	is	called	background	research.
Procedure(1)	
•  First,	you	do	your	back	ground	research	and	make	sure	
that	you	understand	the	terms	and	concepts	and	the	
quesOons	from	the	background	selecOon.
Procedure(2)	
•  Next,	you	create	a	data	table	in	lab	notebook	or	spreadsheet	program.	
•  The	data	table	has		
•  whose	(or	what)	computer	
•  selected	data	type	(e.g.	int	8bit,	16bit..)	
•  selected	mathemaOcal	operaOon	
•  number	of	trials	(IteraOons)	
•  result	of	Ome(ms)	
•  number	of	calculaOons	per	Ome(operaOons/ms)
Procedure(3)	
•  Third, you do running the test code and record the
result of time.	
•  Then, you have to record the all selection.	
•  You do many cases and record them.
Procedure(4)	
•  Finally, you analyze your data.	
•  You use a calculator or spreadsheet program to
calculate the average processing time for each
combination.
Procedure(5)	
•  You make four bar graphs to examine if the amount of
the time that the computer needed to do a single type
of mathematical operation(like addition).	
•  Mathematical operation changes with different data
types.
Procedure(7)-a	
•  You make one bar graph for each type of
mathematical operation.	
•  There will be a total of four graphs which has addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Procedure(7)-b	
•  You make one bar graph for each type of mathematical
operation.	
•  There will be a total of four graphs which has addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division.	
•  Each graph should have one for each data type. 	
•  The height of each bar should be equal the average time for
that combination.
Procedure(8)	
•  Last, you look at all four bar graphs.	
•  You can find that what computer is slower or faster
than other.	
•  You compete your predictions and graphs of result.
