Context Statement
- 1. Context Statement For my fmp I’ve decided I want to try and make a short film as I’ve done lots of types of filming but never made a full- length project. I’ve made edits, podcasts and short vlogs just on my own free time as I enjoy making those things, it has given me better insight into how I could also approach the format of a short film visually, stylistically, story wise and how I would edit it all together as I have experience behind the camera, in front of it and behind the editing phases. The idea of the film is based of the cult classics such as “Fight Club” and “Donnie Darko”, but I am going to be focusing more on the mental aspects rather than the fighting or paranormal aspects both these films bring individually. I really homing in on the factor of a character that no one else can see but the audience and the main character, so a imaginary person or hallucination that the main character builds up to deal with their current situation and in my choice of situation I’ve decided for it to be around the main characters failing modelling career and is trying to find a way to get back on his feet or showing the struggles of being scouted and how social media can feel like a weight down on you as you aren’t on the same level or don’t have the same things / opportunities as others. I’ve chosen to focus on these points for this project as I feel it’s extremely relevant in our current society and is extremely common to feel inferior or not as good as others due to you not having the next best thing, best opportunities or not
- 2. being given the chance to try new things because its hard to come across the people who can give you those opportunities. I also just wanted to take a challenge and really push myself with finding new ways to film especially with the challenge of making a character not exist but still completely be there, but with this its opened up multiple avenues that I can take this idea and has let me generate lots of ideas of how I want to shoot and approach this project. For this project I’ve got 2 people who I will be working along side with to make this short film come to fruition, my friend Alex and Sam. I’m going to also be acting within this film alongside Alex as he will be the aspiring model and I’m going to be his “hallucination”, I am going to film some sections myself but for the sections where me and Alex will be on screen, I will have Sam to help on those. I’ve specifically picked these two as Alex has past acting and drama experience along with myself and Sam is well versed in how cameras work, lighting and how to achieve the look I’m going for. I intend on shooting most of this film locally to me I have 3 specific locations I’m certain I’m going to film at my work, my house and Alex’s house too. I have already planned out roughly what I’m going to do in these locations from the shot, angles, how I want it to look aesthetically, outfits etc. I may also do some other shots in town but the three locations I have just given are very close to one another meaning less travel and just makes it easier and quicker to get things filmed but town does also have more locations for shots.
- 3. I hope to get it all filmed over the easter holiday as it means we al have some form of free time eventually and I can organise things a lot easier for us 3 rather than trying to fit a day in the week during college.
