Alhazen pioneered experimental physics and optics, and introduced the scientific method. Abu al-Qasim al-Zahrawi was a pioneering surgeon who introduced over 200 surgical instruments. Al-Jazari invented many early mechanical devices like segmental gears and water-raising machines powered by water wheels. Abdus Salam was the first Pakistani to win a Nobel Prize for his work developing the electroweak theory and advocating for science in developing countries.
