Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the 3rd leading cause of death in Bangladesh, affecting over 6 million people. The primary cause is tobacco smoke. COPD is diagnosed through spirometry showing airflow limitation. Management includes smoking cessation, vaccinations, medications like bronchodilators and steroids, pulmonary rehabilitation, oxygen therapy, and surgery in severe cases. Exacerbations are acute worsening of symptoms and managed with oxygen, steroids, and antibiotics. Hospital admission is needed for severe exacerbations or inadequate response to home treatment.
