At lunchtime, Miyazaki went to the headmaster's house and all the children followed. When he walked into the house wearing his shoes, all the children shouted at him to take his shoes off. Miyazaki looked surprised and apologized, taking his shoes off. The children began telling him the rules, such as taking shoes off on tatami mat floors but being able to keep them on in classrooms and the library. They enjoyed learning about the differences between living in Japan and living abroad.
