Creating a Personal Narrative

The best personal narratives come from events that led you to
have strong emotions. It’s also easiest to write narratives
about events that took place in one day or less.

Look at your emotions chart. Can you think of times when you
have felt intense emotions?

I felt the emotion…. Event…

Now, look back over the events that you chose. You will choose one event
to write about. To choose your event, think about:

   • Length of time: It’s easiest to write personal narratives that take
place in one day or less
   • Details: Be sure to choose something that you remember clearly
   • Sharing: Remember, you will sure this narrative. Don’t choose
anything that’s too personal or would be painful to write about
   • What you learned: Hopefully, the event will have taught you
something about life—a theme that you can use for your narrative!

Put a star next to the event that you would like to write about.
