• Think about back-up preceptors, part-time and per diem preceptors.
• Continuity is not essential in precepting.
Nature of Preceptor and Supervisor Training

•Quarterly Preceptor meetings

Responsibilities
• Supervise 1 to 3 residents a year
• One hour per week of face-to-face
individual supervision
• Read and cosign all notes weekly
• Be available for consultation
between supervision sessions
• Assist with involuntary
hospitalizations, cosigning of CT
social security and disability
forms
Postdoctoral Clinical Psychology Supervisors Roles and
Responsibilities (cont.)
• Participate in the resident’s development of a professional identify
• Instruct in the intricacies of team based care
• Complete competency based evaluations
• Attend monthly supervisor meetings
Nurse Practitioner Preceptor Roles and Responsibilities
•Discuss clinical issues, labs, diagnostic images
•Assist in, and provide direction for all aspects of patient care
•Encourage CHC’s goal of providing fully integrated care
•Supervise and assist with procedures when applicable (only procedures
the preceptor is comfortable with themselves)
•Review notes and create addendums to notes
•Encourage other providers to inform residents
when good teaching opportunities arise (physical
findings/procedures, etc.)
•Be dedicated to teaching and supporting the
residents during your assigned precepted
sessions
•Be present and fully available to the residents
until the last scheduled patient is seen

•Encourage critical analysis and
evidence-based reasoning in the
ordering of tests and laboratory

competencies in all desired areas of
care
•Provide leadership and direction,
engage in huddles and review the
daily session.
•Ensure timely and efficient review
and management of diagnostic
imaging, lab studies and in-house
