instead ask, “And, who did we bring
along, today?
3. Emergency Contacts- Caution in
gathering verbally

10 Myths Dispelled
1. Being LGBTQ+ is not a mental illness,
or psychiatric condition.
2. LGBTQ+ people are not pedophiles or
deviants.
3. HIV/AIDS is not an LGBTQ+ disease.
4. People do not choose to be LGBTQ+.
5. LGBTQ+ people are not unhealthy or
unfit parents.
6. You cannot spot an LGBTQ+ person by
the way they dress or act.
7. LGBTQ+ people aren’t trying to
brainwash everyone.

the “right man” or “right woman” to set
them “straight.”

Tips for Being an Ally
1. You don’t have to be perfect.
2. Continue to educate yourself ☺ Trans 101, Continued Learning Guide
3. Be aware of your personal biases.
4. Speak WITH the community, but not FOR the community.
5. Thank LGBTQ+ people for opening up to you.
6. Display diverse resources and visuals in your office/space.
7. Advocate for inclusive policies, laws, etc.
8. Let everyone “come out” for themselves.
9. Remember that sexuality and gender are self-identified labels.
10. Know about resources to support individuals.
