Creating an Effective PowerPoint Presentation By: Linda Stoecklin Sharing Tool: slideshare
Today… We will be focusing on how to create an effective PowerPoint for our next class project. Your mission: You are a travel agent, trying to convince your audience to take this trip to your favorite destination. You will be using PowerPoint and slideshare (www.slideshare.net) for this project, or a predesigned template if desired.
Things to remember… Know your topic, this is your presentation Be organized and consistent Practice and be sure how to pronounce the words you are using Use handouts, create a travel brochure Know your audience and thank them for listening Have fun!
Images Your eyes are the gateway to your mind. Images are communication. Use photos rather than clip art. One image per page and leave white space. Make sure the pictures are consistent with your theme. Pictures can provide information. http://images.google.com
Transition from slide to slide As in writing, make sure that the audience sees a clear and comprehensible transition. Your first slide needs to introduce your topic Place your least important slide in the middle of the presentation. End with a question and answer slide, allow time for this.
Font Do not use more than 2 fonts from the same type face family Decorative fonts need to align with the theme of your presentation Serif fonts are highly readable and allow for ease of eye movement, e.g. Comic Sans http://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/serif-fonts.htm DO NOT USE ALL CAPITAL LETTERS Make sure the font is not too large or too small
Clarity of Color Use light on dark or dark on light Black ink on a white background is most readable Deep shades of blue and green are good backgrounds, they are calming and cool Yellow letters on blue background is a compelling combination www.colormatters.com/colortheory.html http://www.smiletemplates.com/free-templates/powerpoint-templates/0.html
Body Language Maintain eye contact with your audience Speak clearly, do not mumble Do not fidget, move around or act silly Be confident and proud, this your work Stay calm and do not be this person
