Critical Measures developed Language Access and the Law - the first e-learning
program in the U.S. to address legal issues associated with providers’legal duty to
provide language access services to limited English Proficient patients (LEP). Leading
national health plans such as Highmark and Wellpoint are using Language Access and
the Law to train their provider networks on language access and the law.
Critical Measures also has an e-learning program entitled Viewpoints: Clinical
Competence in a Globally Mobile World. This is the first e-learning program in
the U.S. (or world for that matter) to provide clinical instruction on how to practice
global medicine. It provides training on the medical, legal and cross-cultural aspects
of communicating with LEP patients, deaf and hard of hearing patients, immigrant and
refugee patients and GLBT patients. This program provides 6.0 hours of CME credit
for doctors and nurses provided through the University of Minnesota Medical School.
