Cross-cultural environment at Glocal University
- 1. We propose to initiate crosscultural environment at Glocal University, by exchange programmes through tieups with Universities abroad and giving an international exposure. Already students from Congo in Africa have joined this University: Students from both countries are learning from each other through joint cultural programs and sports. Apart from the above mentioned Societies/Clubs other activities under the Department of Students’ Welfare are: Student’s Counseling In order to cope up with the new life and environment of a University, as well as be ready to face corporate environment, an initiative has been taken to interface students with Industry. A few faculty members, including a Professional Psychologist, regularly interact with students and take up counseling sessions. Students share their problems or seek guidance in studies, library etc from these faculty members. Gender Sensitization Program The University runs a robust sensitization program to create awareness about gender issues within the student community and the larger public sphere. It is widely felt that in order to promote gender equality, guaranteed by Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, we need to change the mode of interaction at all levels home, school, and workplace and so on. To increase the outreach for creating an environment that fosters equal treatment, Glocal envisages engagement of ‘Gender Champions’ within the University. The purpose of gender champions is to engage young boys and girls to challenge and shift gender norms that contribute to girls and women having less worth, opportunities and decision making ability than boys and men. The roles and responsibilities of the gender champions include conducting group discussions, debates, etc., to engage a variety of stakeholders from schools, colleges, civil society organizations, women’s groups, etc in gender mainstreaming activities.
