The Tulane study evaluated the ability of participants to identify laser-drilled holes in surgical gloves using single and double gloving configurations, as well as the Biogel Indicator Glove System. Participants found 84% of holes in Biogel Indicator gloves within 22 seconds on average, while non-latex gloves had detection rates between 8-12% and identification times of 42-67 seconds. The study concluded double gloving with an indicator system like Biogel provides the best protection against punctures and allows for their rapid detection, while not compromising comfort or dexterity.
