C-SAP OER projectEvaluating the Practice of Opening up Resources for Learning and Teaching in the Social SciencesProject core team:Darren Marsh(Project Manager)Anna Gruszczynska(Research Assistant)Richard Pountney(Project Consultant)Contact:Darren Marshd.l.marsh@bham.ac.ukProject overviewC-SAP project  “Evaluating the Practice of Opening up Resources for Learning and Teachingin the Social Sciences” is part of JISC/HEA  funded Open  Educational Resources Programme within the subject strand. The pilot project, running from April 2009 till April 2010, focuses on the processes  of making ‘open’ a  selection of learning materials by re-working them and depositing into a  dedicated learning and teaching repository such as JISC-based  platform, JORUMOpen. Theproject has given us an opportunity to engage with the theme of OERs from a point of view informedby social sciences critique. This engagement has led to fascinating collaboration between six projectpartners from across C-SAP subject areas - anthropology, criminology, sociology and politics.Project partners6 academic partners from across C-SAP subject areas have contributed a total of 360 credits of educational materials. These include a range of resources from mainly introductory modules, atvarying granular levels: modules, weekly notes and lecture slides, glossaries, reading lists,assessment practices, syllabi, learning objects.Dr Mª Àngels Trias i Valls - Regent’s College London [Anthropology]

C-SAP OER projectEvaluating the Practice of Opening up Resources for Learning and Teaching in the Social SciencesWhat is happening at the moment?Project partners are in the process of repurposing the modules into Open Educational Resources, with theproject team providing guidance on issues of copyright, IPR, accessibility, pedagogic frameworks and anyother relevant issues. In addition, each of the partners has chosen one of the modules to become part of acase study which documents the process of “opening up” educational resources in a reflexive way. Thesecase studies, focusing on pedagogic practice, will be published as part of the project toolkit offering guidanceon overcoming obstacles related to releasing and sharing OERs. When will the toolkit be released?The toolkit as well as a website accompanying the project is due to be released by the end of April.
