Government surveillance
The government and
companies like google and
facebook are watching
everything you do.
The NSA watches every
person in America.
It will only get worse in the
future.
When did government surveillance really
become big?
The terrorist attack on September
11th, 2001 really changed the world
forever.
In 1949, George Orwell wrote a
book about the future he saw
coming.
In this world, the government
watches everything people do,
and people have no freedom.
This world is really becoming
true in 2018.
This book is banned in
Thailand.
Sesame Credit
Now, 6% of
Chinese people
use Sesame
Credit.
In 2020, all
Chinese people
will have to use it!
It watches everything you buy.
• If you buy work shoes or things for a family, your score goes up
because they think you are a good person.
• If you buy anime from Japan, your score goes down because they
think you are lazy.
Sesame credit is scary!
• You can get a bad score if you say something bad about the
government.
• If you get a bad score, it will bring down the score of your friends and
family.
• If you get a bad score, your children may not get into good schools,
you cannot fly on a plane, and cannot get a loan at the bank.
• People with a low score may have slower internet speeds.
Most Chinese people like Sesame Credit!
• Many people say “I have nothing to hide, so I don’t care if the
government is watching me.”
• This is a strong argument, but they forget that when people have all
your information, they have all the power, and they can treat you
badly.
What happens to us when we are being
watched?
- We don’t trust the government.
- Anxiety
- People are afraid to be open and
honest, and say an unpopular
opinion.
- People are less creative.
Police body cameras
Everything we do and say could be recorded
and seen by millions of people on youtube.
People sometimes lose their job because of something they said outside work
that was recorded.
Social media is bad for mental health
Problems from social media: low attention span, bullying,
stress, false information
Transgender bathrooms
In America many transgender
people want special bathrooms.
What is it like in Thailand?
UBI- Universal basic income
• Many people are losing their job because of robots and technology.
• In the future it may be difficult for most people to find a job.
• With UBI, everyone gets enough money to live.
Do you think everyone should
get money from the government
if they don’t work?
