Editor's Notes

  • #23: We’ll be well connected at Whirlwind; we’re securing greenway lands & trail corridors that will provide nonmotorized access from across town. [LASER] Here’s our North Bay Beachwalk from Little Squalicum Park on the right; the green ovals indicate 2 small parking lots.On the bluff top, Marine Drive is a designated element of our County’s Nooksack Loop Trail. This RCO request would allow for parking at the yellow ovals. The Chartwell trail is indicated with the green arrow. The red arrow indicates Whirlwind Beach is designated as a greenway system node in our Parks, Recreation & Open Space Plan. I’ll pass over these connections, except for the coastal North Bay Beachwalk here (POINTER) & the Marine Drive recreational corridor here (POINTER). (CLICK, CLICK). GREEN shapes indicate existing parking lots & beach access trails. Currently the Port-owned parking lot does not publicly connect with the shore. (CLICK). YELLOW shapes indicate planned parking to serve the Whirlwind beach trail & viewpoint & a new access route to the beach from the Port parking lot. We are now negotiating purchase of a parking lot here (POINTER) on Locust Avenue & will be discussing alternatives for Port parking lot trail connections, one possibly involving use of an existing private trail here.
