gas construction personnel. Technical advice for internal staff, customers, consultants, architects,
Emergency standby, incident investigation.
2009-July 2010 Authorising Engineer Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions
Duties:-, AE for Routine Operations and issuing permits to work for deep excavations, ensuring NG
policies and procedures are complied with through site visits and SCO audits, Liaising with
contractors on technical issues, programme of works, pressure issues. Ensure that personnel on
site are competent and qualified to do the work they are asked to do. Ensure compliance with all gas
safety regulations and field procedures.
2006- 2009 Field Officer United Utilities Gas Connections,
Duties:- AE and CP up to 7 bar, health and safety and technical audits, technical advise to
contractors working up to 7bar HDPE and Steel on Northern Gas Networks connections contract,
acted as CP on 8 IP connections in the last 3 years and various other NROs, Authorising Engineer
for ROs and NROs up to 7 bar. customer liaison and complaints and providing customers,
contractors and sub-contractors both technical and general advice. Ensure contractor “as laid”
records, test certificates and asset data records are provided in compliance with the DR guidelines.
Wrote gas design policy for commencement of gas connections contract.
2003-2006 Gas Operations Manager for United Utilities UK
Duties:
Managing the United Utilities GIRS for the mainland UK and gained approval for their 3 year
renewal assessment March 2006.
Writing/updating gas technical policies and procedures. Investigation of incidents and writing of
incident reports.
Management of all contractors competencies and qualifications.
Annual STC competency assessments of UU SCO personnel.
Ensure compliance with CORGI meter installation regulations.
Recovery of income from Gas Transporters, (asset values).
Process, monitor and check contractor “as laid” records are provided within agreed timescales to
ensure payment by 3rd
party gas transporters.
2001 –2003: Senior Gas Connections Engineer United Utilities Networks Preston
Duties:
Gas design for LP/MP/IP Networks for Industrial, Commercial and Domestic customers. CSEP and
Self lay connection point requests. Technical documentation submissions to Gas transporters.
Commercial meter and governor/meter installations, management of United Utilities Gas Networks.
Liaison with Local Authorities, Consultants, Architects, Developers, Meter providers, Governor
Installers, Gas Suppliers, Gas Transporters, etc.
2001 Independent Gas Consultant
Duties:
Design of mains distribution network systems, and individual supplies to large industrial/commercial
customers, on-site technical audits of gas installations, project management, customer liaison.
Clients worked for:- Powergen. Shell, YE, Scottish Power, BG Connections, E S Pipelines, United
Utilities.

Site surveys, planning, pipeline design project submissions and approvals. Highway opening notice
applications and Planning Permission submissions, work scheduling, presentation of "As Laid" plans
etc to asset owners prior to their adoption of the pipe installation. Liaison with ofgem and Transco
on all aspects of UIP work.

Duties:
Transco enquiry submissions, Site Surveys, Planning, Designing, Estimating, materials procurement
and scheduling of new gas supplies to single and multiple premises prior to and after the meter.
1994-1996 Siteworks Co-ordinator, East Yorkshire District Transco
Duties:
Day to day processing of Customer and Gas Shipper requests from quotation to post acceptance
stage for new supplies, isolations and metering. Liaison with Schedulers and operations on a daily
basis ensuring customer timescales met. Training staff on policies and procedures. Standby duties.
1992-1994 Engineering Officer, British Gas North East (Scarborough District, Bridlington
depot)
Duties:
Managed 15 teams consisting of both Direct and Contract Labour teams engaged on district
distribution operations. Carried out site audits, monitoring standards of service, procurement of all
pipe materials, managing plant and equipment and NRSWA issues, identifying training needs of
Direct Labour and competencies of workforce, management and control of financial project costs.

Duties:
Writing and authorising Routine and Non Routine Procedures, site surveys, Operations Supervisor
managing both Direct and Contract Labour teams on Planned, Non Planned and emergency work.
Supervisor for leakage control. On-site technical audits of both contractors and direct labour teams
ensuring compliance with Codes of Practice, Company Policies and Procedures and Gas Safety
Regulations.
During my time with British Gas/Transco and also when working for Thomas Bermingham I
designed and installed LPG networks for both housing sites and non domestic properties
from the Gas governor downstream of the bulk tanks and also replacement schemes for
Networked LPG caravan parks throughout the UK and for a former colleague who moved to
Manx Gas. I also attended reported gas escapes on these sites.
1980-1985 Assistant Engineer, Distribution Planning Dept, British Gas North East
Duties:
Manager of 13 Technical and Drawing Office staff. Supply of management information detailing
workload and financial targets, manpower requirements to meet workload budgets, actioning gas
leakage control reports.

Duties:
Site surveying, planning/design/cost estimating for new LP/MP/IP systems for domestic and non-
