Examples of such crimes are hacking, virus attacks, etc. – The crimes where the computer is used as a weapon. Examples include cyber terrorism, IPR violations, credit card frauds, etc.

Includes breaking the password protected websites, circumventing password protection on a computer system or use of faulty hardware or software implementation to illegally obtain a password to enter a computer system. • Identity Theft - a person fraudulently obtains another person’s personal information and uses it primarily for economic gain. Some instances of cyber stalking includes threatening, coercive or intimidating electronic communication. • Hate Speech Online – The anonymity of internet allows a miscreant to easily spread false and offensive ideas. These ideas need not always incite violence but they might deal with discriminatory attitudes prevalent in the society. • Fraud and Financial Crimes – Crimes related to bank transaction, credit card, online transactions, and e-commerce related transactions, etc.

This includes email, calls or messages luring someone to provide personal information, financial or identity information • Cyber Terrorism –Internet terrorism includes acts of deliberate, large-scale disruption of computer networks, by the means of tools such as computer viruses. Act and comparing it with similar legislations in other nations and to suggest recommendations. Such recommendations were analysed and subsequently taken up as a comprehensive Amendment Act • This Amendment Act got the President assent on 5 Feb 2009 and was made effective from 27 October 2009.
