Women in urban areas are
twice as likely as men to
experience violence, particularly
in developing countries.
Gender gaps in domestic and household work are intensified
in contexts of economic crisis, environmental degradation,
natural disasters, and inadequate infrastructure and services.
Two-thirds of the
world’s adult illiterate
population are women.
In recent peace negotiations,
women represented < 8% of
participants and < 3% of signatories.
In 2013, nearly 800 women
per day died of maternal causes.
99% of the deaths were in

For Gender Equality
After the Conference this new foundation will be created
o The Foundation for Gender Equality will be
fully dedicated to supporting UN Women
o Focused solely on the eradication of
issues created and exacerbated by
gender discrimination worldwide
o A Steering Committee of prominent
business leaders, financiers and
philanthropists will collaborate with UN
Women to reduce the Agency’s funding gap
o A NextGen Committee composed of
passionate, committed young leaders is
working with the Steering Committee
and continuing its mission
