A large international team of scientists led by Professor Jonathan Flint identified genetic sequences linked to major depressive disorder (MDD). The findings could help better diagnose and classify depression through early identification. Specific genes were identified, including LHPP and one near SIRT1, suggesting mitochondria may play a role in depression. The research analyzed over 10,000 Han Chinese women and could help develop more effective drugs and change perceptions of depression.
