Define each of the following terms. Be clear whether it is at developmental STAGE, PROCESS,
or STRUCTURE. Then, place a check to indicate in which of the organisms the term can be
found
Solution
CLEAVAGE:The process by which zygote rapidly divides without growing to become
multicellular. the cleavage is a process,it occurs in birds, reptiles, it occurs in human zygote etc.
MORULA:morula is an early stage of embryo contain cells of blastomeres in a solid ball with in
the zonna pellucida it is a developmental stage,it forms in.human zygote after cleavage.
BLASTULA:blastula is a hollow sphere of cells surrounding by an inner fluid filled cavity called
blastocoele.,it is an embryonic development stage.it occurs in embryonic development in
animals.
GASTRULA:During gastrula single layered blastula is reorganised in to trilamminar structure
known as gastrula.it occurs in early phase in embryonic development stage.it occurs in most of
animals.
NEURALA: It is relating to the Nervous system.it is a folding process in vertebrate
embryos.it gives rise to both the spinal cord and the brain.
Archenteron: It is the rudimentary alimentary cavity of an embryo at the gastrula stage. The
primary gut that forms during gastrulation in the developing zygote is known as the archenteron
or the digestive tube.
Blastocoel: Blastocoel is termed as blastocyst cavity. It is a fluid filled cavity that forms in the
animal hemisphere of early amphibian and echinoderm embryos. It have two major functions in
frog embryos: (1) it permits cell migration during gastrulation, and (2) it prevents the cells
beneath it from interacting prematurely with the cells above it.
Blastomere: It is a cell formed by cleavage of a fertilized ovum.Cells in cleavage stage embryo
are known as blastomeres. Embryo divides without growth ,It undergoes cleavage divisions that
produce separate cells called Blastomeres.
Blastopore: opening of the archenteron in the gastrula that develops into the mouth in
protostomes and the anus in deuterostomes. It is the opening into the archenteron during the
embryonic stages of an organism.
Brain: Human brain is the organ of central nervous system.Located in the head protected by the
skull. The brain is the most complex organ in a vertebrate's body.
Ectoderm: The outermost layer of cells or tissue of an embryo in early development, or the parts
derived from this, which include the epidermis, nerve tissue, and nephridia.
Endoderm: The innermost layer of the germ layer which includes the linings of the digestive and
respiratory tracts, parts of the urinary system, the liver, the pancreas, the gallbladder, the thyroid
gland, the parathyroid glands, and the thymus.
