Demchig Monastery is located over 600 km from Ulaanbaatar in southern Mongolia. It was built in the 19th century by a famous Mongolian poet and Buddhist monk. The monastery was destroyed during Stalinist purges in 1930 but restoration efforts began in 1994. It is now being reconstructed and is considered a world energy center by Buddhists due to a large nearby deposit of alkaline granite believed to have natural energy properties.
