Electric vehicles (EVs) have a lower overall environmental impact than internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, with EVs generating approximately 37-40 tons of CO2 emissions over their lifetime compared to 59 tons for ICE cars. Despite concerns about the CO2 emissions from battery manufacturing and electricity sources, even EVs charged from the least renewable sources perform better than ICE vehicles. Improvements in EV production efficiency and the shift to renewable electricity for charging will enhance their environmental benefits further.
