• #3: Microsoft/Quest value proposition  Msft and Quest are aligned in their priorities for Msft FY12 around two areas which can be summarised for customers as Get Customers Current -  accelerating customers to deploy Windows 7 by reducing the time, cost and issues in migration.reducing the costs and effort for customers in updating and migrating to the latest Msft workloads, specifically Exchange, SharePoint and Office 365. This also includes migration from Notes, Groupwise and Google apps. Msft has other partners which complement Quest in some of these areas eg Citrix in desktop virtualisation and Binary Tree in migrations. The best case of this is IE6 where it can be delivered as a RDS application to deal with the heavy dependence on IE6 in health and local government. Nedbank in South Africa is the first implementation of this in EMEA. DatacenterQuest migration tools deal with many of the technical issues in migrating from older versions of AD, Exchange and SharePoint as well as migrations from Notes and Groupwise.Reducing the costs of deployment. Msft Quest solutions for desktop virtualisation provide Quest management console and diagnostics integrated with System Center to lower the costs of deployment and management by integrating solutions such as App-V and RDS into the Windows 7 deployment plan. ability to manage centrally the whole range of Msft desktop virtualisation technologies means these can blended for lowest cost implementation. Kingston is probably the best example of this. Solutions such as Windows ThinPC and Quest's Thinshell and ZeroPC can be compelling for customers blocked by limited PC refresh budgets - needing to reuse existing hardware but deliver a high quality Windows 7 experience.  Quest's migration tools reduce the costs of migrating the key Msft workloads by automating much of the process and avoiding costly manual work by consultants, so reducing the budget spend for customers to carry out these migrations or allowing them to extend the scope of their project. Extending the scope of the Windows infrastructureMsft and Quest allow IT departments to extend and defend the scope of their Windows infrastructure. Clientconsumer devices, some not Windows based, are entering the workplace either through individual determination or policies such as BYOC. devices such as iPads or Android tablets, Quest connectors mean these devices can access a Windows 7 application or environment via VDI. devices such as MacBooks can run a form of local VDI - effectively a Mac equivalent to MED-v and can run a  Windows 7 environment and applications. This allows Msft to extend the licensing scope of the Windows 7 environment, while in future being able to manage these devices directly via SCCM 2012. Where VMware is strong on the server virtualisation area in the customer this can provide them with an impetus on the desktop virtualisation side. Quest can provide a migration path for stalled VMware implementations to migrate to Hyper-v (York University being an example). Applications migration from Google apps is also key to be able to win over customers who may have started down a Google implementation but find it is not the right solution for them. Key customer references Client/Windows 7Kingston University. 25,000 seat Windows 7 deployment / desktop virtualisation, Quest led, HP involved, VMware knockout.
