This paper proposes a solar power optimizer (SPO) that uses coupled inductor and switched capacitor technologies to efficiently harvest up to 300W of power from a photovoltaic panel and output it at a high stepped-up voltage to a DC microgrid. The SPO recycles the leakage inductance energy of the coupled inductor to reduce losses and voltages. It employs an incremental conductance maximum power point tracking algorithm with a microcontroller to achieve over 99% tracking accuracy. Laboratory prototypes demonstrated 96.7% power conversion efficiency from an input of 20-40V to an output of 400V.
