- 4. Final Design The fine-liner felt tip was selected because it can give solid lines while not spreading ink uncontrollably. The cap style is because of the small size of the tip. The grip extends lower than normal to allow for lower hold which gives more control to writing. The grip is shaped to allow index finger, middle finger and thumb to fit in the indent, for comfort. The shape was designed so it looked sleek yet organically curved. The colour is a calm colour, as well as natural (water). The grip is a lighter colour for contrast. The pattern gives the impression of natural detail. It is straight to match the straight pen: nature is never random.
