This document describes the design of a mechanical can crushing machine. The machine is designed to crush used juice cans, paint cans, and sheet metal waste to reduce waste volume and make transportation more efficient. It uses a crank and slotted lever mechanism powered by a 0.5Hp motor to convert rotational motion into reciprocating motion that crushes materials placed in a bin. Design calculations were performed to determine appropriate dimensions for the crank, pulleys, and other components to generate sufficient crushing force. The crusher was then modeled in CAD software, manufactured, and tested successfully crushing various materials.
