SAY: (1) ‘I wanted to become a lecturer’ (2) ‘I was always afraid of my mom’ (3) Father is a doctor and she needed to live up to expectations (4) She Is happy with her life because she is independent and has her own apartment (5) ‘I want to succeed’ Do: (1) She rebelled against her parents in many little ways (2) Escaped from home and went dancing without her parents permission while in college (3) Studied a lot to keep her mom off her back (4) Played cricket with the boys although her parents were not too thrilled about this 3 Design Tinking Class

Think: (1) Working as a computer programmer will afford her a better life in the short to medium term because there are more jobs available and she can make good money (2) If she passed with an 85% grade, her mom would leave her alone and not constantly remind her that she needs to succeed (3) She still wants to become a lecturer (4) She is uncertain as to what type of lecturer she wants to become Feel: (1) Wanted to make her parents proud of her (2) There are better ways to learn other than reading books and doing homework (3) Still wants to become a lecturer even though she is working as a computer programmer 4 Design Tinking Class

Design Tinking Class 5 Insight: She is working as a programmer because the pay is relatively good and there are plenty of jobs available if you are willing and can afford to work at a reduced pay rate. She is doing well with her life. She moved from India and now has her own apartment in New York City She communicates effectively and is likeable I got the impression that she is a nice person but can make up her own mind about things. She seems like she can be tough if needed

Problem Statement: The person I interviewed is a bright, ambitious and motivated young lady from India who is now working in New York City as a computer programmer but wants to pursue her dreams of becoming a lecturer so that she can help younger people progress their lives. She is uncertain about what level of students she wants to teach and the field of study. She is somewhat nervous because she is unsure as to the steps she needs to take to become successful as a lecturer 6 Design Tinking Class
