This document discusses designing inclusive urban environments in developing countries. It notes that the global population is aging and urbanizing rapidly. The author's PhD research aims to understand how best practices from inclusive urban design in developed countries can be adapted to developing country contexts, and to identify challenges and solutions. The World Health Organization's Age-friendly Cities program aims to optimize health, participation and security as people age through accessible and inclusive urban structures and services. However, questions remain around implementing this program in less developed areas experiencing rapid urbanization and informal settlements.
