Idea 1 (Pre-gym drink)
My first idea was for a high fuelled,
high intensity drink designed to give you a
huge caffeine and energy injection that
would be perfect for people to drink just
before they go to the gym.
When thinking about a drink for
body builders I decided a good theme to
link this to would be
Ancient Greece because of their gods,
their sports and their army's.
When researching colours to use I
looked at some of the colours ancient
Greek armies wore and yellow, red, white
and black seemed to be common. These
colours are also very strong, eye catching
ones and so I think they will work well
together.
Other opportunities to add more
interesting detail could be the inclusion of
lighting in the design, something that
connotes speed and energy, but also
reminds one of Zeus, the king of Ancient
Greek gods.
There are many very iconic but simple shapes
and styles of images or drawing that I can
replicate that have very strong connotations of
Ancient Greece.
These silhouetted figures with the anatomical
outlines of their muscles on their bodies makes
them look very strong and muscular. I think this
is something that would appeal to the
bodybuilding community.
This era would work very well as a theme for a
sporting product as Greece is where the
Olympics originated.
The Greek stories of Hercules, the Minotaur,
Zeus and many others are all of people or
creatures with huge strength and power and so
this drink will be very appealing to people who
want to get as big and strong as they can.
Idea 2 (Healthy)
Having explored the possibilities of a high
powered, highly fuelled energy drink designed to give
you a huge caffeine and energy injection I decided that
I would go for a more subtle and healthy approach to
my second one.
I think in the western world the Asian culture
and lifestyle, all be it a stereotypical view, is a healthy
and natural one. Asian culture for me has connotations
of bodily but also spiritual wellbeing and is one that is
very popular in western society at the current period.
I think pairing this culture with energy drinks is
good as it contrasts the belief held by many people
that energy drinks are hardcore, unhealthy and
unnatural. Marketing my drink as a healthy, good for
the soul drink could work well.
I looked at a few different oriental themed
fonts on the internet but thought that many of them
were too complicated and would not be easily read,
the two I have chosen however are still Asian inspired
and work for these theme well.
For a colour scheme I wanted to go bright and
colourful, to connote life and energy. I do not want to
include any fluorescent colours or ones that look
unnaturally bright as this will give the wrong
impression I believe and these colours are best left to
the Monster Energy type drinks.
Adding a yellow stroke to the centre
gives the text a vibrant, electrifying
appearance that connotes energy.
Using an outer glow can achieve the
same effect.
Instead of adding a coloured glow or
stroke I have this time coloured the text.
This means that the connotations of
vibrancy and energy are still there and a
drop shadow effect can be added. This
works well to bring the text off the
page.
Here is a logo I quickly designed to show how all
the colours could work together.
I did some research looking at
oriental advertisement posters
and packaging and the best
ones I found were all relatively
simple designs with quite large
blocks of colour and a
emphasis on typography.
I really like this style and I
think it works well and I want
to try recreate that in my
work.
I may look at changing the
colours I have selected and
only having one. This will
make my work bolder and
stand out more.
Here is another logo
example I quickly designed
to show how it would look
with only one colour and a
more simple design.
