- 3. BIRTH • D.O.B.- (28 December1932 – 6 July 2002) • He born at Chorwad, of Gujarat • Father - Hirachand Govardhandas Ambani -a school teacher • Mother- Jamanaben- a thrifty(िकिफ़ायती) woman • Two brothers and two sisters.
- 4. EDUCATION • After he completed his primary education, at the village school, he was sent to the Junagarh Dist. for further studies. • Quite popular in his school and well- known for his brilliance and hard-work. • Elected general secretary of the Junagarh Students Union.
- 5. CHANGE IN LIFE IN ADEN (1949-1958) Aden is a seaport city in Yemen • Aged 16 yrs • Started worked with A. Besse & Co. for a salary of Rs.300, immediately on reaching Aden • A. Besse & Co.-- largest transcontinental trading firm east of Suez • Dhirubhai -first sent to the commodities trading section & later, transferred to the section that handled petroleum products for the oil giant Shell. .

He learnt the ways of : commodity trading high seas purchase and sales marketing and distribution currency trading money management to learn the tricks of the trade He offered to work free for a Gujarati trading firm. There he learnt : accounting book keeping preparing shipping papers and documents dealing with banks insurance companies., skills that would come handy when he launched him self into trading about a decade afterwards in Bombay .

BUSINESS MILESTONES ● 1958 :- Returned to Mumbai, from Aden to start his own business in spices. ● 1959 :- Started Reliance Commercial Corporation with a capital of Rs 15,000 at Mumbai. ● 1966 :- Set up a spinning mill at Naroda, near Ahmadabad; floated Reliance Textiles on a capital of Rs 15 lakh. ● 1977 :- Reliance Textile Industries issued 2.8 million shares in a landmark public issue.
- 8. ● 1983 :- Reliance sales increased but net profit declined. ● 1988 :- Reliance Petroleum raises Rs 1,300 crore from two million applicants. ● 2000 :- Worlds largest refinery complex was commissioned at Jamnagar, valued at over Rs. 25,000 crores.
- 10. • November 2000 – Conferred 'Man of the Century' award by Chemtech Foundation • 2000, 1998 and 1996 – Featured among 'Power 50 - the most powerful people in Asia by Asiaweek magazine. • June 1998 - Dean's Medal by The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania

- 13. EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES • Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology - established by The Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation (DAF) at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Community Development Gave importance for community development.

Healthcare Initiatives • The DAF has joined the management Healthcare Initiatives of Sir Hurkisondas Nurottumdas Hospital and Research Centre (HNH& It is RC) DAF converted this a 28-year- old institution involved in clinical research Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, hospital into a patient-focused and not-for-profit. Lodhivali, District Raigad.
