Different Methods of Street
Art
Chewing gum Street art- Ben Wilson
Ben Wilson born in 1963 is an English wood
carver and outsider artist. His dislike for
industrial waste, cars and rubbish eventually
turned into an art form. He creates tiny works
of art by painting chewing gum stuck to the
pavement. In addition to the chewing gum art,
Wilson paints and sculpts. He has exhibited
his paintings and sculptures in England, the
United States, Germany, Ireland, Finland,
France and Serbia. This kind of street art
does not damage anything and doesn’t break
the law. In fact it can be seen as making an
area look better because there's artwork
covering the chewing gum on floor.
Stencil (Banksy)
Stencil graffiti is a form of graffiti that makes use
of stencils made out of paper, cardboard, or
other things to create an image or text that is
easily reproducible. The desired design is cut
out of the selected medium and then the image
is transferred onto a wall, pavement etc by
spraying the cut out design with spray paint.
This can be seen as damaging buildings and
can cost a lot of money to clean up because
usually permanent spray paint is used to do
stencils which can damage the environment.
Tile art (Space Invader)
Invader is a French urban artist, born in 1969,
whose work is modelled on pixel games of
1970s–1980s 8-bit video games. He took his
name from the 1978 arcade game Space
Invaders, and much of his work is composed of
square ceramic tiles inspired by video game
characters. This kind of street art doesn’t
damage any buildings or the environment as
Invader uses cement paste to stick his work to
the walls. This cement paste doesn’t damage
the buildings it stuck on as it can be taken
down without leaving a mark.
Lego Street art (Jan Vormann)
Jan Vormann does an unusual
form of street art by filling in broken
parts of walls with lego blocks. This
type of street art doesn’t damage
any building or the environment as
Vormann actually fixes the missing
bits off walls with the lego. This
brings colour to walls and makes
them more interesting, also it
would attract people to look at it.
Posters/Prints/Stickers (Shepard Fairey)
Frank Shepard Fairey (born February 15,
1970) is an American contemporary street
artist, graphic designer, activist, illustrator
and founder of OBEY Clothing who
emerged from the skateboarding scene. He
first became known for his "Andre the Giant
Has a Posse" (Obey) sticker campaign. He
became widely known during the election
for Barack Obama as he produced the
“Hope” poster which was used as the official
poster for Obama's presidential campaign.
This form of sticker street art can be used in
several different ways e.g. to reproduce lots
of same copies, to get their views across
and address issues. This way of street art
does not damage the environment as its
only stickers and posters which can be
easily removed but can be kept up for a
while.
Flower bombs
This type of street art is called Flower
bombs, this form of art doesn’t damage
the environment. Flower bombs help to
make a part of the environment better.
Flower seeds are placed into plasticine
and shaped into a shape of a bomb
and threw into bad areas such as
wastelands etc and few weeks later
there are flowers in the area which
makes the area look better. This
doesn’t break the law as it is helping
make a run down area look better.
