Different Types of Tack Welding Presentation
TACK WELDING
by Mark Saura
Objective
Perform tack welding in accordance with
the welding procedures
Unlocking of Difficult Terms:
1. Fumes – a particles or substances that are
dangerous to inhale.
SYNONYM: Vapor, Smoke
In Cebuano: Asu
In Filipino: Singaw, Usok
Unlocking of Difficult Terms:
2. Preheating - is a temperature to which a metal
or electrode is heated before an operation is
performed
SYNONYM: Warming up, Tempering
In Cebuano: Pagpainit daan
In Filipino: Paunang Pagpapainit
Question:
What are safety precautions that need to be
practiced before, during, and after performing
tack welding?
Safety Measures in Tack Welding
Before Tack Welding:
• Ensure proper protective gear:
• Inspect tools and equipment:
•
• Prepare the workspace:
Safety Measures in Tack Welding
During Tack Welding:
• Maintain correct posture and distance:
• Follow proper welding techniques:
• Monitor surroundings:

After Tack Welding:
• Turn off and store equipment properly:
• Inspect the workpiece:
• Dispose of waste materials:
Question:
Since we will perform tack weld in a flat
position what essential should be considered
to ensure that the weld bead attach to the
2-base metal?
Answer:
Correct Electrode angle.
In performing tack weld in
a flat position, we need to consider the angle of
electrode. And that is 45 to 75 degrees.
Question:
Why do we need to wear protective clothing
such as welding apron and jacket?
SCIENTIFIC INTEGRATION
HEAT TRANSFER
Conduction
This occurs when heat is
transferred through direct contact.
Convection
This is heat transfer through a
fluid (liquid or gas).
Radiation:
Heat can also be transferred in the
form of infrared radiation, which does
not require direct contact.

MATH INTEGRATION
Electrode Angle
An acute angle is defined as an angle
that is less than 90 degrees. In the
context of welding, the angle of the
electrode in relation to the workpiece
forms an acute angle, which affects the
penetration and appearance of the weld
bead.
ACTVITY TIME
Divide yourselves into four groups. Each
group will be given a Performance task
sheet in Performing Tack welding in Flat
position.
Read and comprehend the instruction
indicated in the task sheet. You have 10
minutes to the activity
Assess your work using a
performance checklist and
engage in peer feedback
Your performance will be grade based on the given
Rubric
Conclusion:
Mastering Welding
Welding is a skilled trade that
requires knowledge, precision, and
practice. By understanding the
fundamentals and following proper
procedures, you can create strong
and durable welds.

Editor's Notes

  • #17: Heat transfer is the process by which heat moves from one object or material to another. There are three primary methods of heat transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation. In welding, heat is generated in high amounts, and understanding how it spreads is essential for protection. Conduction: This occurs when heat is transferred through direct contact. For example, when you touch a hot object, the heat moves from the object to your skin through conduction. Convection: This is heat transfer through a fluid (liquid or gas). In welding, hot air and gases around the welding area can transfer heat to surrounding materials or objects. Radiation: Heat can also be transferred in the form of infrared radiation, which does not require direct contact. This type of heat transfer occurs when energy is emitted from a hot surface and spreads outward, much like how the sun heats the Earth. During the welding process, temperatures can reach extremely high levels, often over 1,000°C, which can cause severe burns if not properly managed. The heat produced during welding is primarily transferred to the body through conduction, as the welder is in close proximity to the hot workpiece or the welding arc.
  • #21: The angle at which the electrode is held relative to the base metals can be viewed as an acute angle in a triangle.
