conversation with

Harmony). Once you determine this, you
can tailor your approach to the best way
to have a calm and effective
conversation.
Write down what you want to say
to that individual

organize and if you want there to be a
clear outcome, your message needs to be
that way too! Get your thoughts and
message on paper and you'll be amazed
at how much that helps.
Ask HR if you're unsure of how to
approach it.

HR (The Human Resources department)
are professionals of having these types
of conversations and they could provide
you with some practical advice and tips.
Role play your conversation with
your manager first

HAVING DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS
The first time you have your difficult
conversation shouldn't have to be with
that person. Your manager could be a
good resource to role play the
conversation with and getting coaching
to making sure you get your message
across.
Be prepared to document the
conversation in a written format

HAVING DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS
Part of performance management is
documenting the occurrence of the event
with specific details involved (dates,
words, actions) to be used later down the
line if things don't improve. Don't just
rely on the conversation itself.
Having written documentation is critical.
Remember that you are both
human and this is difficult to do
