- 1. Digipak Analysis Tame Impala - Lonerism (2012)
- 2. In reference to the album title, ‘Lonerism’, the image consists of bars in the foreground, conveying an element of isolation, This sense of isolation is further heightened as there are large groups of happy people behind these bars, excluding the character, whose view from their eyes is conveyed through the image. The red tinted filter and slightly distorted/grainy image is reminiscent of a 35mm/disposable which is synonymous with the indie/rock genre, which is this band’s genre. The photograph was taken with a Diana 35mm camera.This therefore follows the conventions of the genre. The French writing on the sign translates to ‘ Dogs, even on a leash, are not admitted beyond this point’, which could imply that the character looking beyond the bars is seen as a ‘dog’ and a bit of an outcast in society, again referencing the ‘lonerism’ title.
- 3. The back cover of this album pictures a man laying down in a home music studio, holding a bass guitar. This reflects the attitude of indie/garage rock, as the small studio creates a sense of intimacy between the band and the music, with a lack of mainstream commercialism, associated with large record labels, and more mainstream music, such as pop music. Again, the image is tinted and has some graininess to it, appearing to be taken with a 35mm/disposable camera, an iconic element associated with indie rock. - 4. Booklet - Widespread photograph, again has a filter/effect to it, conforming to the indie rock genre. The booklet has lyrics of the songs on the album on it, in a small white font. The photo is taken at the same location as the photo on the front cover.
- 5. The booklet inside of the CD case, also features tinted pictures of the photographs on both the front and back cover. This is perhaps to convey the psychedelic element to their music.
