          It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane!
It’s Discover Super Powers at MNS!
Museum of Nature & Science Hosts Weekend-Long Family
Festival June 11-12 to Reveal the Science of Super Heroes
DALLAS, Texas (May 26, 2010) – Looking for summer fun the whole family
can enjoy? Never fear! The Museum of Nature & Science is here! The Museum’s
popular Discovery Days series continues June 11-12 with Discover Super Powers. The
weekend-long festival includes activities and exhibits for all ages.
MNS will save the day – actually two full weekend days – by pulling back the capes
to reveal how scientists view human flight, attempt to harness the power of spider webs for
industrial use and look at the science of invisibility and mind control!
The Museum will also debut its brand-new stage show, Super Hero Science.
During the show, audiences will get a first-hand look at X-ray vision, bullet proof
costumes, lasers, invisibility and even levitation!
“The goal of this event is to teach children and their families about the ways scientists are
being inspired by science fiction writers to create new and exciting technologies, as well
as how science fiction writers have been inspired by nature to invent cool super powers
and heroes,” says Stacey Bucklin, family and adult programs manager for MNS. “We
want to reveal the science behind the super powers and explore whether or not they could
ever become a reality. Some of these technologies may be closer than you think!”

                                              (cont.)
Discover Super Powers, page 2

Guest exhibitors for Discover Super Powers include DFW Tarantula & Arachnid
Group, who are giving away all of Spider Man’s secrets. The Texas Museum of
Automotive History will give the Batmobile a run for its money, and the Fort Worth Zoo
will spotlight the animal abilities that can be found in the most famous (and infamous)
super heroes. Other exhibits and activities will showcase such topics as mind control, X-
Ray vision and real “super strength!”
Discover Super Powers is the June offering for the popular Discovery Days series
now in its third year at the Museum of Nature & Science. Back for the second
sponsorship season, Time Warner Cable is presenting the entire 2010-2011 series.
Discovery Days run for a full weekend in November, February, June, July and August.
Themes for this July and August are Discover Dinosaurs and Discover Construction
respectively.
“Discovery Days is a great series of events for families because there are activities for
all ages, and the events are a wonderful way for families to learn something fun
together,” says Steve Hinkley, director of education for MNS. “The events allow visitors
to get hands-on with the science that exists all around them – the topics we have picked
for this year are just a small representation of ways in which science is a part of our
everyday lives.”
Discover Super Powers is free for MNS members and included in the price of general
exhibit admission for non-members. Regular general exhibit admission is $10 for adults
18-61; $9 for seniors 62+ and students 12-17; $7 for children 2-11; Children under 2 are
free. Save time and avoid lines by purchasing advance tickets online.
The MNS campus is located in Fair Park. The Science Building is at 1318 S. 2nd
Ave., and the Nature Building is at 3535 Grand Ave. Weekend hours for Discover Super
Powers are Saturday 9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Sunday noon until 6:00 p.m.
