To remove grease and oil from wood, a poultice made from diatomaceous earth and acetone should be applied. The mixture forms a paste that is spread in a half-inch layer on the wood. As the acetone dries, it pulls the oil into the diatomaceous earth. Once dry, the paste is scraped off and the process repeated up to three times. The cleaning must be done outdoors due to the flammable and smelly fumes from the acetone.
