Introduction:
Library Sessions and Beyond!

Scheduling a Class
To schedule a library session for your class, contact Joe
Goetz at goetzj@stthom.edu or call 713-942-5972. You
will be scheduled with one of our instructional
librarians, who will contact you to discuss details.
Sessions are usually held in Doherty 008 in the library
basement. However, we can also hold sessions in your
  classroom on campus.

If you don’t have time for a session, or want additional
   options for instruction, read on!

Distance Learning
If your class would benefit from a library orientation but
meets off campus, ask about having an online
Instruction Guide created for your class.
These Instruction Guides provide sequenced resources
and tutorials to simulate a class session in a stable
   online format.
Guides are adapted to your students’ needs, and can be
supplemented with assessment tools or live online
   sessions with a librarian.

Research Guides
Doherty Library produces research guides for specific
subjects, classes, and research tasks. To view these
   guides, visit http://campusguides.stthom.edu.
If you would like to suggest changes or additions to our
guides, such as a new guide for your class, contact the
   librarians at reference@stthom.edu.

Tutorials
Doherty Library enhances its online instruction by
producing online tutorials in various formats,
including video. To sample our tutorials, click Tutorials
  on the library home page.
Tutorials can be a great way to teach specific skills,
including how to choose and search databases, find a
particular type of resource (e.g. book reviews), and
  avoid plagiarism.
Tutorials can be further enhanced with quizzes and
  certificates of completion.
Contact librarian Joe Goetz about tutorials for your class.

In some cases, classes can benefit from ongoing
  interaction with a librarian.
This interaction might take the form of multiple
instruction sessions, small group meetings, online
discussion boards, or librarian attendance at some
  class meetings.
To pursue a collaboration of this kind, contact
  reference@stthom.edu or a specific librarian.

              goetzj@stthom.edu 713-942-5972
Ask Us!
Finally, the simplest way to help your students use the
library is to tell them about our reference services.
Consider placing this language in your syllabus:
Go to askus.stthom.edu to contact reference librarians or
to get instant answers to frequently-asked questions.
Librarians are available to help you with
research, citation, and library use questions though
email, phone, chat, text and in person. Get the best
information and speed up your research at Doherty
    Library.
