Independent Variable:
Length or the mass?
Domain
Set of possible values that the
independent variable can take on
has a special name. It is called the
DOMAIN of the function. It
consists of every number that x
can represent for your function.
Interval Notation
An alternative to using inequalities to
describe a span of values.
Includes smallest value, largest value
and enclosed by ( ) or [ ].
We use ( ) if the endpoints are not
included - so if we have < or > or open
endpoints on a graph.
We use [ ] if the endpoints are included -
so if we have ≤ or ≥ or closed
endpoints on a graph.
Interval Notation
      Examples
Rewrite the inter vals below in set notation:
  1.) − 6 ≤ x ≤ 3 3.) − 1 < x ≤ 10

  2.)0 < x < 17 4.) − 2 ≤ x < 29

Dependent Variable: Length
or the mass?
Range
The RANGE of a function is the
set of possible values of the
dependent variable. It consists
of every number that y can
represent for your function.
