First, I selected the image that I wanted for my front cover and
uploaded it onto Photoshop. I used the Quick Selection Tool to
select parts of the background. I wanted to change the background,
making the front cover more of an EDM magazine. I then used the
Background Eraser Tool to erase the background.
This image was one of my choses for the front cover. It
is a close up shot from the chest. Using Photoshop, I
will alternate the image, changing the colour of the
jacket and fixing the ‘flyaway hair’ on the model, so the
image will turn out more clean and professional.
I changed the appearance of the model, where I changed the
brightness and contrast of her face. I alternated her make up, hair
and face. I also alternated the model’s jacket, changing the
brightness, contrast and vibrancy, allowing it to become much
brighter, more of a rose red colour, rather than the light pink
original colour. I did this as vibrant colours are usually seen on
the model’s in EDM magazines.
Then I erased the whole background, leaving out a
checkered pattern. I copied an image of “mist” form
Google Images and pasted it onto Photoshop. I
rotated the image and enlarged it slightly. I placed
the mist image behind the layer that is my model,
so the model is placed forward.

While designing the cover, I found that the fonts I had chosen beforehand while
planning the front cover were not suitable. So I went to dafont.com and looked
at the different fonts. I ended up choosing Haze for the masthead. I used this
font because it has a certain ‘edge’ to it, its not a simple font, its more likely to
be one of the main features you see once you look at the front cover. I decided
to go for a really bright yellow, so the masthead is really eye catching and draws
attention.
For the headline, I used the font Futurist. I used
this font as it is simple and does not clash with the
masthead. I thought a variety of fonts was needed,
some more erratic than others. The “Lady Mariz”
part of the headline is coloured in white while the
rest is coloured in black. The sizing is different,
allowing one to be seen as more important that
the other.

For the headlines I decided to use Bebas Neue Regular again, as it is a bold
font which I needed and Myanmar MN Bold for the sell lines. I placed the
sell lines on the left and right hand side of the model, making them
surround the model. I used two different fonts for the sell lines so readers
are able to differentiate which part is more important. The sell line written
in font Bebas Neue Regular is the most important part, which in this draft
will be an artists’ name. The font for Bebas Neue Regular is blue while the
font in Myanmar MN Bold is white.

I copied an image of a barcode from Google Images and
pasted it onto Photoshop. I rotated the image and placed it
near the headline, on the bottom right side. I used Bebas
Neue font for the issue number, date and pricing. I used
black for the font so it can stand against the image
underneath it. I rotated this and placed it next to the
barcode.
