Draft Script – Heathrow: Love
Opening scene –
- Opening scene explains what the series is going to be about. Our series
analyses London Heathrow’s Airport, a major international airport in West
London with an average of 191,200 people arriving and departing per day.
This individual episode is focusing on love and how Terminal 5 brings
together loved ones who have been apart for a period of time, showing
how amazing the revolution of terminal 5 has been in order to bring
people together.
- A montage of shots of loved ones greeting each other at the arrivals gate
at Heathrow airport. A voiceover will be going over the background of the
shots, with light-hearted happy music.
- People in the airport will be holding signs with quotes on them about
love.
- The title will be revealed when a plane flies over the sky, with a low angle
shot looking up at it, letter by letter ‘Heathrow: Love’ will be revealed.
Interviews –
- Girl gone on gap year for a year, long distance relationship with
boyfriend, interview about how they coped with the challenge, shots
of him greeting her at the airport. (Emotional greeting scene)
- Interview with airhostess/host about travelling abroad and Heathrow
airport – Stories to tell
- Interview with a group of boys who have been travelling away from
loved ones
- Interview with business man travelling- how Heathrow (Terminal 5)
has changed his life, quick access with underground train
connections, talking about how he travels to London for business
when he lives abroad with his family
Part One –
- To make our documentary realistic we will end the scene by making
it seem as if it was only part one. A shot used with the words ‘Part
One’ coming across the scene, making it seem realistic as if the scene
will continue for part two.
Draft Scrip – Heathrow: Love
Open with a montage of terminal 5 establishing shots
- Then montage continuing to flash/ cue cards:
1. ‘Love is Blind’ - Blind man with a helper dog/ acting blind
2. ‘The heart has no wrinkles’ - An old couple
3. ‘Love is when the other persons happiness is more important
than your own’ - Teenage couple
4. ‘Love makes the world go round’ - A female or male holding the
sign next to the international arrivals sign
5. ‘I love you more than chocolate’ – Young child
- In between the cue cards will flash shots of people sharing affection
at the terminal
- Whilst this visual message is commencing it will be matched with
the introduction to the film ‘Love Actually’ speech.
“Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the
arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion’s starting to make out
that we live in a world of hated and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems
to me that love is everywhere. Often it’s not particularly dignified or
newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and
daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When
the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls
from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were
all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find
that love actually is all around.”
- Then cut to an interview with a mother whose child is going on a
gap year to Australia – whilst she is speaking it cuts to videos of
them smiling/ laughing at each other. The interviewer will not be
present.
- Then similar interview with child, cutting to images of Australia
whilst he/ she is talking. Zooming in on hands and certain facial
expressions.
- Now cut to another story of an airhostess and airhost that fell in
love whilst working/travelling together, they now have raised a
family together. Interviewing both together and separately – add
humour through questions when apart. Whilst interview
commences will cut to old photos of them together.
- Back to Mother and Child at the airport – he/she is leaving.
Emotions heightened and highlighted
- After the beak/montage finish.
Draft Script- Heathrow: Love
Opening scene –
- To open the scene we will have shots of people in Terminal 5
Airport holding signs with quotes about love, for an example
‘We fall in love by chance, we stay in love my choice.’ These
shots will be merged together and then come up with the
opening title, ‘Heathrow: Love’ which will come across the
screen. A group of people walk past the camera with their
suitcases, slowly letter by letter the title is revealed as they exit
the shot.
Interview – Relaxed interview with girl who just been abroad to New York for her placement
year, she left with a boyfriend, the boyfriend couldn’t handle the long distance relationship
however when she was in New York she fell for an American boy. (Love story interview)
- Another small interview in a car with husband who is on his way to pick up his wife
who had to go away for work placement for a few months.
- Shots of him greeting wife in airport
- Montage of clips of affection shown at Heathrow arrivals
