Hiring of new plant manager is in process for Pittsburg
plant. (replacement of terminated plant manager)
Pittsburg plant have been trouble spot.
Production cost extremely high, and has faced labor strife.
Used several expensive selection devices/methods.
8 candidates remains for final selection of 1.
Doesn’t have culture of filing job openings, favored
internal promotions.
No policy of lateral transfers, transfers observed very rare.
Key issue: whether company benefits from the transfer?
 Education: BA/BS and preferably MBA (in Industrial relations or
Supply chain Management/Production Management or Plant
Management)
 Experience: 5 to 10 years in same capacity.
 Age: 35-55 years of age.
George Martin: 44 years of age
 Reasons:
 B.A, M.A (Industrial relations)
 From Dynamo competitors, Plant manager experience for 380 non union
employees.
 6 years of Experience
 Scored the best in Personality test i.e. 3 High traits and 1 Medium trait.
 Interview score 22/28.
 Average Intelligence test (119 > 115) and best in Hand writing (+3)
 External hiring; So, no promotabillty and performance record.
 Work sample score of 19.5 nearest to highest score i.e. 20.
Kathy Joyce: 36 years of age

 Very confusing results from the participants, at 1 side they seems
best but from other side they paralleled seems worst.
 Kathy Joyce was only women, that’s why selected as second best.
Otherwise Davis also deserved to be second.
 Frank Hall selected as 2nd worst because of age and personality,
interview and Intelligence scores.
 Tom Doyle was also the nominee of 2nd worst as he worked as PM
and got removed by Dynamo.
 But Tom scores were satisfying in interview, intelligence/hand
writing.
