Edward IV ruled as King of England from 1461 to 1470 and again from 1471 until his death in 1483. He was born in 1442 in France and inherited his father's claim to the English throne after his father, Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York, was killed in battle. With the support of Richard Neville, the Earl of Warwick, Edward defeated the Lancastrians in several battles and took the throne. However, Warwick later turned against Edward and deposed him, but Edward was later restored to power and defeated Warwick in battle, eliminating Lancastrian resistance and ruling as king until his death.
