Norfolk Naval Shipyard is implementing the Electronic Technical Work Document program to transition from paper-based work instructions to using electronic tablets, which will save an estimated $168 million over four years by streamlining processes and increasing productivity. The program will allow shipyard workers to access work documents, training videos, and ship drawings in real-time using tablets instead of paper. Implementation is set to begin in 2014 and will fundamentally change how maintenance work is planned, executed, and certified at the shipyard.
