Editor's Notes

  • #28: If you want to drive traffic to your website you are going to have to create a lot of content. Just to give you an idea. On my business plan executive summary website I have published 200 blog posts, written 20 guest blog posts for other entrepreneurial websites, answered 50 relevant questions on various startup question and answer websites, made 100 comments on relevant articles on other entrepreneurial websites or blogs, and have created and published 20 youtube videos. So what does that get me? From Jan 1st to May 15th I had over 15,100 visits to the website. Almost 40,000 page views. Where did the visitors come from? 4,700 from Google search results, 3,000 typed in my website address directly or clicked a link from one of my follow up emails, Almost 2,000 clicked a link in a comment I made on inc.com or entrepreneur.com and 600 came by clicking a link in articles I wrote and published on AssociatedContent.comEvery single visit is somehow tied to content. Without the articles, or the guest blog posts or the comments of the videos I wouldn’t have any visitors. People consume content on the internet. My website answers peoples questions or provides a resource that they are specifically looking for.You might be wondering how I could possibly write 200 blog posts about business plan executive summaries. That is a good question. It isn’t fun, but you need to stay focused if you want to be recognized as an expert in a particular field. Again I could probably go on for 10 hours on which tools to use to create videos or presentations. How to write great blog articles. How to make sure that you are getting the most search engine bang for your buck. If you are going to dive into working on earning expert recognition I would love to help and walk you through the process. So you are bringing relevant traffic to your website. Great! But how does that help your business grow? How does that translate into leads or sales?
  • #29: I am sure that almost all of your have done this before. You have been looking for information online, you find a website that offers the information, but they would like your name and email address before you can access the info. This image that you see here is a sign up form for an executive summary example and template that I have created. I have had over 2,000 people sign up for one of my free ebooks, templates, or examples.
  • #30: Here is another example. I really like to use 3d ebook images to capture leads. This form would pop up on my website after you have been on the site for 5 or 10 seconds. My goal with the website is to capture leads using information products. Once I have the lead I have the opportunity to continue to provide value to that individual. I can send automated follow up emails offering more free materials or resources. This helps me build a relationship of trust and credibility with the lead. Some people will get frustrated with follow up emails and simply unsubscribe, but typically 40% of my emails are opened, and 15 to 20% of people click the link in my emails. So I might have a new product or service that I promote to my list first, or just a new blog post that I think would be interesting for them to read. Let me show you some stats from Aweber which is what I use to collect and manage my leads.
