This document provides instructions for performing an earthquake analysis on a structure using the pseudo-static method in STAAD v8i. The steps include: 1. Defining the seismic parameters by adding a seismic definition and inputting values for the zone, response factor, importance factor, etc. based on IS 1893:2002. 2. Creating earthquake load cases in the X and Z directions and combining them with dead and live loads. 3. Assigning pin supports and obtaining support reactions for analysis. 4. Importing the support reaction values into Excel to create weight tables that are then input back into STAAD. 5. Removing the pin supports and assigning fixed supports at the foundation before running the full analysis

- 1. 1 STAAD v8i EARTHQUAKE ANALYSIS BY PSUDEO STATIC METHOD 1. Click on seismic definitions (click on add) a. Seismic definition window will appear b. Provide Seismic parameters c. Select IS 1893:2002 d. Input parameters Note 1: Here sample values are given for Solapur City Note 2: User should refer IS 1893: 2002 for respective project i. Zone: ii. RF: iii. I: iv. SS v. Type of structure: vi. DM: vii. Period in X: viii. Period in Z: Click on Add 2. Go to load page a. Load 1: EQX b. Load 2: EQZ c. Dead Load: Create all dead loads on the structure under consideration d. Live Load: Create live load on the structure under consideration (i.e. Floor load) 3. Create the combination of Load Case of (DL + 0.25LL) a. First freeze lines related to EQ 4. Now assign pin support to all the nodes of beams and column joints. Get the support reaction from post processor (i.e. RUN ANALYSIS) for combination of (DL + 0.25 LL) and copy the same from STAAD Pro. to Excel sheet. 5. Now the page will show the table like Node FX FY FZ MX MY MZ 1 2 3
- 2. 2 Delete all the columns except Node No. and FY reactions. 6. Now create the table in excel sheet as given below Node WEIGHT Value 1 WEIGHT 2 WEIGHT 3 WEIGHT 4 WEIGHT 7. Copy above two tables from excel sheet to STAAD Pro. Input file DIFINE ZONE JOINT WEIGHT (we have to type this string) Paste table from excel LOAD 1 8. Go to input file defreeze all the string related to EQ 9. Remove the pin supports and assign the fixed support at foundation level 10.Run analysis
