This document presents an overview of a proposed new ebook selection system for Vanderbilt University Library. It begins with an introduction to systems engineering methodology. It then reviews the current manual ebook selection process and identifies problems with it. The document discusses trends in rising ebook sales and an approach involving benchmarking other universities and using knowledge management. An interim system is proposed using rulebooks to provide step-by-step guidelines for librarians to streamline the selection process. Finally, the document outlines plans for developing and implementing the new system.
