A minimum of three documents you might use to hold students
accountable, such as a copy of a student contract
Part II: Job Aid
Complete the following table using the skills you learned in this course.
You may use the completed table in your classroom as a job aid or as a
reminder.
Culminating Project: Managing Your Classroom
At the beginning of the school year, you plan to create a packet for
parents explaining your classroom management plan. You will also
create a job aid reference to help you in managing your classroom and
instructional strategies to enforce discipline. Complete Part I, Part II, and
Part III below.
Part I: Beginning Of School Year Packet
Create a packet to send parents at the beginning of the school year.
Design as many documents as possible for actual use in your classroom.
Include the following in your packet:
A letter introducing yourself and briefly explaining your teaching
philosophy
Your classroom management plan, bulleted or numbered, and stated in
positive terms, including:
General rules
Turning in assignments and homework
Entering or exiting a room
Group work
Restroom
Computers
Centers
Missing materials
A copy of the rules and procedures for your classroom as your students
will see them
An example providing an overview of your time management
procedures for your classroom, such as an agenda of a lesson plan or a
list of an approximate time spent on certain lessons
A graphic representation of your classroom setup with notes indicating
why it is setup that way. Note: You may use the classroom setup created
in Workshop Two.
Provide a short scenario based on each behavior listed in the left column.
For instance, next to the behavior “Chewing Gum,” you might write: A
1st-grade student, new to the school this week, is chewing gum,
although the rule has been posted since school began. OR: A 10th-grade
student is chewing gum again after being reminded yesterday and the
day before.
Add an example of positive communication and its possible effect.
Complete each row with the rationale for the possible effect of the
positive communication
Part III: Instructional Strategies to Involve Students
Use the table below to complete the following:
List five instructional strategies that you will use to increase student
involvement and maintain discipline in your classroom.
Describe how each strategy works.
Incorporate technology in at least three of your strategies.
