Editing my images
Editing the Lillah and Lola images
So that I could begin editing this first image of Lillah and Lola, I started by opening the picture on Adobe Photoshop.
I used the magic eraser tool to delete the larger sections of the green background curtain, rather then using the smaller eraser, therefore, deleting the background was slightly faster and more efficient.
I continued to delete the larger sections of the background, by using the magic eraser tool, until I was left with smaller sections of green to delete, those which would have needed more concentration and use of the smaller eraser for a more intricate and professional finish.
To delete the remaining sections of green screen, which stuck to certain features and items of clothing I zoomed in and used both the magic eraser and the smaller eraser to delete the green from the more intricate sections of the image. Most of the green from this particular section of the image was deleted in sections using the magic eraser, however, other sections (especially when is came to the skirt of Lola’s dress) were harder to modify.
At this point I had deleted most of the green from Lola’s skirt, but there were certain areas, where the green screen had glowed and reflected upon her skirt. This made it harder to delete as, if I had have used the magic eraser it would have deleted the majority of her skirt (all of the sections were coloured similarly). I eventually used the smaller eraser to delete the green glow, but had to be careful not to erase large chunks out of her skirt, so I therefore skimmed the edge of her skirt with the eraser, trying to make it’s out line flow until the end of the image rather than cutting the skirt short and abruptly ending it’s pattern.
I had to cut around the guitar after I had finished editing around Lola’s skirt, having to modify the green glow which was present on the woodwork, I did to majority of this with the magic eraser, also using the cloning tool to copy the sections of the guitar which didn’t have a green glow on them over those sections that did.
I had to delete the green screen which appeared to have stuck to Lola’s skin, there turned out to be prominent outline of green, which was very easily seen when the image was placed on top of a dark background, therefore, leaving me not choice but to zoom right in and use both the smaller and magic erasers to cut out all of the green.
Using the spotlights, created numerous shadows in he image, similar to this one. I was unable to us the magic eraser in this section, because of the amount of shadows in this section of the image and around the neck of the guitar, deleting on of the shadow, consequentially deleted other shadows upon her dress and the guitar, deleting huge chunks which looked ridiculous.Using the smaller eraser I cut out this section of the green, then zoomed in even further to smoothen the surface of her skin and ensure the eraser had not left circular indentations.
Lola’s bracelet had reflected so much green, that it would have been impossible to just delete the green, with either of the erasers leaving the remainder intact. So I had to delete the entire bracelet, using both the magic and smaller erasers. I tried to make it look as if there never was a bracelet and unnoticeable.
I finally had completed the deleting of the background , but ran into a problem when I noticed the extent of the green glow featured upon the side of the guitar. I normally would have merely cloned the woodwork, but there was so much green that, it would have appeared fake and out of place.
In order to change this I new that I would have to alter the colour balance on the image, to change the was the green appeared hopefully making it less prominent.
The first time I tried to alter the colour balance to counteract the green glow, I increased the amount of cyan in the image, but it just made the green more obvious.
After this I increased the amount of yellow in the image but once again the green remained obvious.
Finally I very slightly altered the amount of red and blue, in the colour balance which gave the image a pink/purple glow. Which I thought was appropriate, in relation to the glow of stage lights and the colours of Japop.
I finally decreased the red, by a very small amount so that it didn’t seem to fake or artificial. This completed my image ready to be featured in my magazine.
Jess and Guitarist photographs
Similarly to the other image I began by opening this image (from the second photo shoot) in Adobe Photoshop.
Once again I used the magic eraser tool to delete the larger sections of the green screen background.
After deleting the larger portions of the green background I used both the magic and the smaller erasers to zoom in and cut out the more intricate sections.
Zooming in close to delete the green was a long process, with a large portion of it, I was able to use the magic eraser, however certain trickier areas (his shirt collar) I had to use the smaller eraser.I used the magic eraser on this section, but other sections of Jess’ skirt proved to be harder to edit. The green actually glowed on the material, which I couldn’t just delete, but had to carefully skim the edges of her skirt with the smaller eraser. It made it neater and more presentable.
When I used the magic eraser on Jess’ shoes it cut too much of it out. Leaving a jagged edge at the base of her shoes. The green from the background left a glow upon her shoe, which seemed to stand out quite a bit.
I used the cloning tool to clone the darker part of the shoes over the green glow, making it less obvious.I used the smaller eraser to edit out the jagged edge which was previously at the base of her shoes
I used the magic eraser to cut the more noticeable sections of the green outline from the guitarist’s shoes When I had deleted the green I used the smaller eraser to delete the heavily green glowed area of the white on his shoes
Once again there was a lot of green glowing on the shiny surface of the guitar, which I was going to have to delete.Using the cloning tool I cloned the deep red shadow colour over the green, to ensure that it wasn’t as noticeable.
Jess' solo photographs
This was the image prior to any editing
I used the magic eraser to delete the larger chunks of the green screen background, until I had only smaller areas of green remaining.
I used the smaller eraser to delete these miniscule areas of green, so that it would look professional and well done.
Used both the smaller eraser and magic eraser to delete these larger portions of green which were surrounding Jess.I had to cut certain sections of her hair to make it smoother and not stand out quite as much.
I continued to use the same techniques to complete the editing of this image of Jess, until I had completed it, ready to be place in my double page article.
