Effective Practices: State purpose of assignment State goals of assignment Make assignment meaningful Provide helpful hints on how to complete the assignment
Purpose of Text Assignments Assignments are designed to give students an introduction to the content and concepts being studied in class.  Students are accountable for this information Not “busy work,” but rather “learning activities.” Achieve goals: to read and learn  (not simply just fill out worksheets)
Helpful Hints Pay attention to headings within the text Read entire chapter carefully Re-read sections of the chapter if needed. Be sure to include ALL answers from a list. Pay attention to bolded terms, names, dates, and events. Look-up vocabulary that is unfamiliar.
